Lexicon Devil

A classic slab of LA punk courtesy of mrep, who is one of my favorite people to shoot the shit with at record fairs in NYC. Never a dull moment with this guy around, and he always has GREAT records for sale as evidenced here.

Anyways… best LA punk record ever, hard to get, what appears to be a first press*, yadda yadda yadda. I passed up a dead mint copy of this for $200 back in 2001 in San Francisco and have been kicking myself ever since, though I did recently/finally get a copy earlier this year (but not for $200 :( ).

* The guys at Discourage recently discovered there are two pressings of this record, the first press has “flat” labels and the second version has a slightly different matrix number and the labels have more contour to them.

these are the good kind of Germs!

recordmecca has some pretty high-end stuff for sale including a signed Nirvana flyer and a test press of Bleach, but even though I like some Nirvana I thought this record was cooler!

a test press of the Germs ‘What We Do Is Secret’ 12″ EP. This ep is the only way to get the 2nd stuidio version of ‘Lexicon Devil’ which oddly is not even on the discography LP/CD. This test is from the original Slash release from 1981 with hand written labels.

Did anyone see The Germs when they toured with Shane West (the guy from ER) singing? I’m not sure if they came around my area or not, but I was curious even though it might have sucked a lot!

gimme gimme this gimme gimme that…

Darby Crash has been dead longer than he was alive, but this song still kicks as much ass as it did in 1978 when the record came out!

- Pat Smear somehow managed to play for Nirvana and the Foo Fighters
- The Melvins did an awesome cover of this song
- Darby was played by Shane West from ER in the Germs biopic
- Theres a great rap group from Providence called Lorna Doom
- The Germs were awesome in Decline of the Western Civilization

This looks like a pretty awesome copy of this single. Really good shape for its age!
