SSDecontrol 2-fer

Seller 33eyez has been liquidating a really nice collection of classic American hardcore records and printed goods over the past few months, and he just launched a nice new batch of goodies for everyone to get their greasy little mitts on.

Although these aren’t my two favorite X-Claim! releases — the #1 and #2 spots are reserved for My America and Is This My World?, respectively, and these guys rank #3 and #4 with Get It Away over Kids — I have to say that every time I see either of the covers, a little Carl Brutananadilewski pops up in my head and says, “Classic, total classic.”

Side note: never realized till recently that Pushead’s Get It Away art is a direct lift of a Spirit comic splash page by Will Eisner.

Is This My World?

Might as well make it three X-Claims in a row (and the three best, at that) with this great looking copy of ITMW from seller amerbs. I have to disagree with the post below though and say that this and My America are better than Get It Away, but really you can’t lose with any of them.

This has less than a day to go and it’s not sky high yet, so hopefully someone can take this home for a decent price.

You’re gonna burn you’ll learn you’ll learn…

xsheerxterrorx is going to be featured a ton of the site pretty soon. As you could guess he has a ton of Sheer Terror records, and a lot of records that I want to throw in my collection. SS Decontrol’s – Get It Away 12 inch EP is something I already have but I wanted to share with all the vinylnoizers.

This EP is in my top 3 straight edge releases. From Glue to the Buzzcocks – No Reply Cover, and all the heavy hitters in between it’s such an in your face release.  Before you know it, it’s over. The title track Get it Away in the middle of the record is such an insane song musically, and with spit in your face straight edge lyrics to add, there’s a reason why it has a special place in my heart. From the rolling drum hits and slow beat behind the bass line to the wall of guitars squeeling when it picks up, It’s crazy that some of members weren’t on drugs when they recorded it. The package of this record is great too. I know, I know, The Kids Will Have Their Say is more of an iconic cover, but the Pushead artwork just matches the raw and dirty sound of the record.

Subject to My America

Kind of a weird little 2-fer here courtesy of brodies… I’m not quite sure why he wouldn’t just sell them separately given the nature of the rest of his auctions (not to mention these records have absolutely nothing in common other than they are both hardcore bands), but maybe someone can sneak in the back door and get a deal on these. Lots are good for that kind of thing.

Get It Aways

I thought people liked this record? I thought it was sought after? Am I misremembering?!? These two copies have only about 2 days left and one has no bids and the other is just over $10. Thats nuts to me. I figured they would be much higher this far into the auction. Are they bootlegs and I just dont see it?

SSD – Get It Away

You know those 12″ LP frames? You see them sometimes at record shops or Urban Outfitters. Most of the time, they puzzle me. What album cover is cool enough to frame? I can never think of any. Then this album always floats up from the back of my mind. Seriously, nothing beats the cover art of SSD Get It Away. So fucking awesome. Scum and crap and city and life. It’s Pushead and it’s awesome. Check this cool interview from Hardware #8 on pusfan.com (I hope Brett knows those dudes reprinted his interview there …).

You can grab your own copy of the lp from soulvice88. You are on your own for 12″ vinyl frames, though.

Another X-Claim Collection.

Is it just me, or do we keep seeing sellers (such as roundagain here) throwing up complete/near complete X-Claim! collections lately? I feel like this is at least the third time (yes, I am too lazy to look right now)… not that I’m complaining mind you.

Test Press Tuesday Can’t See Shit

Some things are inexcusable. Take the auctions from quesowueso for example. He’s pretty much doing everything wrong. It’s not 1997. You can’t get away with posting up X-Claim Records test pressings without pictures. And to have the balls to start off with those high start prices and not even bother writing up decent descriptions. It’s a recipe to not sell shit. Dumb.

Ganggreen Test Press.

DYS Wolfpack Test Press

Jerry’s Kids Kill Kill Kill Test Press

Slapshot Back On The Map Test Press

Slapshot Sudden Death Overtime Test Press

And then some of the other auctions have Taang pics… Don’t know. Seems REAL weird.

SSD GIA BIN

One more BIN from krypt-of-cool

I haven’t been in search of a copy of this LP in ages, so I’m not sure if $100 is a “good” price or not, but the free shipping is a nice incentive and perhaps you could combine a couple issues of Nude Rebels or Ass Backwards to your purchase to get your money’s worth.

The Kids Still Want Their Say!

Brotherhood is my favorite of the X-Claim releases, but ‘The Kids Will Have Their Say’ is one of my favorite LP covers of all time. I don’t actually have this LP, but I did get an almost mint unused sleeve. I guess after the record was pressed they had some unused sleeves. Al took the unused sleeves and gave them to some of the people that were in the picture used for the cover. I got one that had been sitting in Chokes basement probably since 1982!

You don’t really need me to tell you anything else about this record. So I’ll just tell you a few more of my favorite LP covers…
- Love Gun – Kiss
- Emperors Return – Celtic Frost
- Choclate & Cheese – Ween
- Another Perfect Day – Motorhead
- Powerslave – Iron Maiden
- Crippled Children Suck – Meatmen

PS. This one is a bootleg.

FU’s – My America LP

Controversial opinion of the day: This is the best X-Claim! LP. This LP is fast, tight, and has incredibly pummeling production. There’s something about early Boston HC (ie, the X-Claim stuff), and this LP in particular, where the guitars sound HUGE—like there are 20 guitars playing at once. I think it’s a combo of the playing and the recording, and it blows me away every time I listen.

This record is VERY tough to get with a clean cover, due to the nature of the printing. This copy looks really nice, and the opening bid is low, so hop to it.

The scene is real & made up of friends, Not centered on fashion or New York trends!

X-Claim had a theme going with band names all being acronyms SSD, FU’s DYS…. damn Jerrys Kids came along and ruined everything!!

X-Claim # 2 The FU’s ‘Kill for Christ’ from 1982
– great record, amazing band, Pushead album cover art! I was never a huge fan of The Straw Dogs, but I love me some FU’s. I have My America, but its the 1989 Classy Records version. Alas, no X-Claim vinyl for me.

X-Claim # 3 SS Decontrol ‘Get It Away’ from 1983
– the band that started it in Boston, the original Boston Crew, probably SSD at their best, there is no denying what a great song ‘Glue’ is! As much as I would love to get to hear these songs live I’m glad that the history of SSD was not tainted by the ‘Springa Sings Decontrol’ tour that was suposed to happen a couple of years ago.

X-Claim #4 DYS ‘Brotherhood’ from 1983
– Wolfpack was my favorite straight edge record when I was in 10th grade so by default I think this is my favorite X-Claim release plus its got cover art drawn by a young Dickey Barret! I will admit that it doesnt feature D. Christian Smalley with a lizard on his shoulder the way the 2nd DYS record does, but Jon Anastas does have his own Wikipedia page that lists him as “Punk Rock Musician/Hardcore Pioneer”.

X-Claim!

Two of Bostons finest releases. I might get a lot of hate for this but I like the FU’s record more than the Jerry’s Kids lp. Maybe its cause “Kill for Christ” was the first X-claim! release I ever owned? Maybe my love of snotty vocals? Maybe cause I have stared at that cover for hours(so good!)? In any case you probably need these.
Side note – being the cultural ambassador that I am, I recently had to explain that F.U.’s was not pronunced “foos” to some local Japanese punks. Lost in translation
