I think it was 1994 and me and my best friend decided we were gonna drive up to the Ocean Mist in Wakefield, RI to see the Young Black Teenagers. We were both going to CCRI (Community College of Rhode Island) at the time and it was a ‘school night’ but we had gotten sucked into how catchy the song ‘Tap the Bottle’ was and actually tried to cover it in a band we had at the time.

So we make the drive up and we get there at about 7:30 for a show thats suposed to start at 9:00. We pay our $35 (yes THIRTY FIVE DOLLARS!) to get in and hang out in the club where a couple of guys are playing records. So we’re sitting there for an hour and a half and its ‘show time’ when we realize that we’re the only ones there. We just keep sitting there assuming the show will start soon but it doesnt. Time keeps ticking by and its 9:30, 10:00, 10:30, 11:00, 11:30… finally its about 11:45 and I get up to go to the bathroom. I’m gone about 5 minutes when I hear music starting. I rush out and I’ve missed only 1 song. They continue into 3 more songs, but do really short versions of them and then they start playing the ‘big hit single’ Tap the Bottle. At this point I’m shocked that they are playing their big hit so early in the set… Unfortunantly I was more shocked when after Tap the Bottle they said ‘thank you… good night’.

We walked to the door with the other 8-10 people that had shown up and I asked the bouncer if that was seriously the whole show and he assured me that they were done. We both left pretty pissed off and disapointed but at least we had a good story about ‘the worst show we ever saw’.
