I am sure I could have used the search feature to see if there has been a Wide Awake Wednesday before. But I was too lazy. So I am just going to say that this is the first official Wide Awake Wednesday. I can do that, I have been here almost a month. And it’s about time! We’ve posted some of handsomephantom‘s auctions before, and if he keeps posting up the goods, I am sure we will continue. First pressing of this Schism CTHC classic. White labels and all.

Fuckin’ RAD
Haha, this 7″. I just recently picked up the blue-cover version for a $1. The one anthracite_records is selling is more rare, out of 100! What Atari was for skating, RAD was for BMX biking. Same time period, similar youth crew revival HC style. I forgot where this band was from or what their story was but, I think they were pretty rad! Comes with some rad trading cards too, rad!
Mindset Lacking Comp
While digging today, I came across a comp that I had never heard of, and clearly wasn’t looking for. In reality, I was looking for Mindset EPs. Mindset, the React Records band from Maryland. What I found instead was the Lacking Mindset Compilation. It’s pretty much spot on as a mid 90s comp. Unbroken, Struggle, Honeywell and Groundwork. Guaranteed anyone under the age of 20 has only heard of one of these bands. And anyone older than 20 probably has a few of the 3 other band EPs scattered through out their collections. These bands could pump out a split EP faster than … well, faster than a lot of fucking things. This one came out in 1993 from a little label called Spoonfed Records out of Arizona. Scottsdale, Arizona to be exact. My geography isn’t that hot, but I’m guessing very little CORE came from that section of the US in the early 90s (did Vogel live here for a while???). But thanks to pingler, you can get in on the action.
And of course, if you are looking for a MINDSET release, grab this great record release cover from benjaminjsb
And if you are looking for a comp that does not lack Mindset, go ahead and grab this Youth Crew 2009 comp from jupitercrash45. Full circle folks, full circle.
ALERT!
If you haven’t heard Alert yet, you must be living in a yurt in the middle of Big Sur.
I can’t think of any other reason you would have missed out on this crew.
Seriously.
This band is all about fun. They bring it back like the late 80s. No one takes themselves to seriously, but pride in their actions is apparent. Lots of Straight Edge pride up on this one.
This lot is for the demo pressed on wax. I’m 90% positive it only came on clear and black, and both colors had an equal amount pressed. What’s odd is that the record label is some joint from Florida that I just can’t recall. I honestly would have expected a Western Mass label, but no.
Also, the cover is drawn up by Jay Jacoby. You’ve seen his work before, trust me. Great dude with a good eye (and a steady hand) for what bands want and deserve.
I suggest snapping this up. In about 6 months, you’ll be kicking yourself if you don’t. Trust me on that one.
