Only a couple hours left for you to snatch up this zine lots being auctioned off by mikeylizard, both featuring what was possibly the best zine of the 90s, Hardware Fanzine (yes, I slept on posting this, and now rather than a massive screed on Hardware, you get this brief “it was awesome” post. Sorry). Also included in the second lot are a Schism reprint and the 4th issue of Tension Building, which is the issue that featured the comp 7 inch that debuted Floorpunch’s “Always”, but alas, the record is not included.

Zines Worth Reading
Lets talk new zines. We give plenty of bits to old zines on ebay, but what about new zines?? Here are two I found worth reading. Of course, I may be biased, as you’ll see.
First up, I Drink Milk Newsletter #1. I love a solid newsletter. No clutter, no fuss, no (real) filler. This one is straight to the point. Two interviews. One with Gil Sayfan of Free Spirit, Deej Bros, Triple B, Sully’s, … Seriously worth reading. The second interview is with one of the dudes behind Tee Till Death and HowsYourEdge?com. He’s a wordy bastard, but it seems like an entertaining read to me. But hey, I might be biased, like I said. Honestly, the best part about this zine is the layout. He did some clever shit when it came to laying out my interview. I was stoked on how it came together.
Next up is Thanx For Nothing fanzine Issue #9. This one is stuffed with content. Like serious content. There must be at least 50 reviews (fairly short) and 4-6 interviews: Boston Strangler, No Solution, Brian Murphy of TTD, The Mongoloids (from 2005), Dig, … Seriously, lots of content. There’s only one drawback. It’s all French to me. Literally. The zine is straight out of France. Any French speakers want to read a translation to me? Copies still available. Go get one.
Get your read on.
BIG LOTS.
Seller curlcon151 has a pretty nice package of records, flyers, and zines here for you to grab for what seems to me to be a fair enough BIN of $160.
The full list is in the auction, and it also includes the SOIA ep on Rev, a 2nd GB ep, and Madball’s Ball of Destruction ep. He doesn’t really go into detail on pressings though, that would be the only concern I would have before making an offer. He also has this second set of lots up, this one consisting of 21 lp’s with a $120 BIN:
All the pics are in sets of two, and I’m not gonna post 10 pictures, so you’re just gonna have to go check the auction to see what’s there…
Raymond Is Fundamental.
Seller midgetsubs has a lot of vinyl up right now, but I’m choosing to ignore it for now in favor of these three zines, all from legendary artist Raymond Pettibon, of Black Flag flyers and record art fame. If you’re into punk and hardcore, and you’re an artist, his name damn well better be in your influences list…
Sick Line Ups.
If the main interviews in these zines from distortnewyork were shows, they would be frickin’ INCREDIBLE…
AF, Breakdown, The Templars, Slapshot & Awkward Thought? Indecision, Earth Crisis, Madball, 108, Shutdown, & Subzero? Sepultura, Wu Tang, Bad Brains, Murphy’s Law, and Sam Black Church? Ok, that one is beyond the beyonds, but then, I’m crafting it off the cover of a “Magathing”.
EXTENT.
In addition to all the Hot Water Music test presses and rarities, mademshelly also has an issue of the classic BHC zine Extent:
As you may have guessed, it was purchased because of the presence of HWM on the cd sampler that came with this, what turned out to be the final issue. So that Redemption 87 7 inch promised inside the back cover… never came about. That always bummed me out. I actually still have the copy of this I bought when it came out; it’s well worn and more than a little Scotch taped at this point, but the 454 Big Block, H2O and Redemption 87 interviews in it all remain great reads, as does the point/counterpoint on the Middlesex College/Earth Crisis/yogurt throwing incident and the Guide to DIY photography, t-shirt, and zine making.
I had also had the issue before it, but it didn’t survive as well and eventually ended up recycled. Seller scottm6136 goes even farther back than that, however, to when Extent was a simple black and white photo copied zine…
This issue is much less relevant to my interests. Still, I would love to see Extent get the TOHC or Schism treatment. Those two issues I had meant a lot to me as a young kid, as they were responsible for getting me into a ton of bands. Tony Pops line about Killing Time’s Unavoidable ep making him think of “sketchy guys in work boots, moshing in Kreator tank tops” was directly responsible for me buying a Killing Time cd, swear to God. I nailed the quote entirely from memory even.
THE LIFE BLOOD OF OUR SCENE!
Every time we post zines, we go with that line. Because it’s a classic, and because we believe it. So here’s two zine lot auctions from life_as_one…
I wish I still had my old copies of In Effect so bad. They were great, but I cut them all up and pasted the interviews and pictures I liked all over the walls of my dorm room freshman year of college. Why I felt that was the route to take instead of just keeping them and reading them, I have no idea.
The life’s blood of our scene
Our man Mike Inhuman has some nice vintage NYHC zines up for sale, of the high quality variety. Always loved that Raybeez pic on the cover of Smorgasbord.
Zines: The Life’s Blood Of Our Scene.
The zine is a lost art, but it’s not dead, and the fine folks at redscrollstore have a wide selection of zines from through out the last decade and a half that prove it’s so. And speaking of art, these first three zines all have some great cover art, including what looks like some early work from our pal Spoiler…
I was never really into most of the bands Impact covered in it’s pages, but issue 2? The “Closing the Doors on The Anthrax” issue? Holy crap. I found it a better read than the actual book on the Anthrax that came out earlier this year (good book, just it was literally the complete history of the Anthrax, and let’s face it I only really was interested to hear about the NYHC years).
Bridge 9 even had a zine going for a little bit. Originally it was a one page “Fact Sheet”, and from there it actually became a full size zine/catalog for a couple issues. Pretty sure there was a picture of me moshing with my shirt over my face to AN at Mass Art in this one (or maybe that was in that dude Max Powers zine, he worked at B9 for awhile there so I could be confused).
Change Zine was always a good read, even if I wasn’t enough of a basketball fan to appreciate a lot of the content. But The Simpsons issue was priceless, and the dude did a whole column ragging on STB for accidentally breaking his nose at a show in the final issue, not mention interviews with dudes like Chaka and Sammy. It’s a shame the comp that came with the Simpsons issue isn’t included.
And of course what modern zine collection wouldn’t be complete without at least one issue of Town of Hardcore?
There’s so many more listed in redscrollstore‘s other items. An later issue of Suburban Voice, several issues of Start Today… Myself, I would have put the lesser known ones up in a lot, but maybe you can drop them a line about combining some shipping.
